My vision when creating and building the Sport Wellbeing Survey was to create an avenue to regularly monitor wellbeing for athletes, sporting teams and organisations across time, in a similar fashion to monitoring physical capacity, wins and losses.

There is significant research indicating that monitoring wellbeing and proactively developing wellbeing programs has many positive benefits on athletes, teams and sporting programs.

One of my goals was to arm leaders, coaches and staff working with athletes and in wellbeing roles with evidence and a strategy to proactively have wellbeing conversations and implement and integrate wellbeing programs into their environments. In this way, wellbeing would be integrated into the culture and fabric of a sport team or organisation.

In over 30 combined years of study and experience in many roles with sports, schools, organisations, it is clearly apparent that building wellbeing programs to upskill people of all skills levels and ages has a tremendous positive impact.

My work began as a teacher and progressed into psychology where I have consulted with thousands of individuals, as well as dozens of sports and teams from local to professional and Olympic level.

The Sport Wellbeing Survey and six sub-categories (mood, resilience, engagement, communication, relaxation and positivity) have evolved over a period of time from research, experience and collaboration with colleagues, as well as support from RMIT University.

Through the survey, we will be able to provide invaluable information and feedback to athletes and sports on how you can support and enhance individuals and the culture that they operate in.
